In my student days I would never have imagined joining a firm that would give me the opportunity to work on global transactional engagements worth more than $85 million, or to live in the UK on a client secondment for 18 months.
But that's the JR difference.
Joining Johnston Rorke Chartered Accountants as a graduate was the smartest career move I ever made.
I've gained expertise in taxation, business structuring, GST, superannuation and financial management, and now, I'm proud to say I am a partner of hte firm and I'm here to stay.
But I didn't achieve this level of success on my own.
At JR, you have the support of an amazing team of colleagues. In this firm, monitoring is a big deal - not a chore, or an afterthought.
There's a mutal respect between partners and employees. Partner's spend one-on-one time with employees on a daily basis, providing the support, advice an in-depth knowledge needed to tackle CA exams and achieve great results.
You know what they say about all work and no play? At JR we believe that is true. That's why we've created a workplace culture that is socially dynamic.

KAREN LEVINE - MANAGER
I began my career at JR in February 1996 after completing a Bachelor of Commerce at U.Q.
The outgoing nature of the staff and the diversity of high calibre clients, provides a fun and challenging working environment. Meeting and talking with your own clients is common place at JR, even as a graduate. The Partners are easily approachable and always willing to share their valuable experience. I have completed the PY and received fantastic ongoing in-house training and support which is integral to your performance in the program. JR has a well struck balance between work and play which ensures my lifestyle is not inhibited whilst I strive forward in my career.

ANNE TWINE - ACCOUNTANT
JR was my first place of employment after completing a degree in commerce/economics at UQ. From day one, I was given a large degree of responsibility including the management of jobs
and client contact be it by phone or in person. You are not however thrown in the deep-end and left to fend for yourself. The groups are structured such that more senior staff with various experiences are available to provide one on one guidance. This is in addition to the formal firm training, the informal group training and specific training aimed at those in the CA program. The flat structure that JR adopts also means that you work for multiple partners and are therefore exposed to several different accounting styles.
The social side is also extensive. Social club functions such as monthly drinks, the financial year ball, and 'YETTE' (Year End Technical Training Extravaganza) provide further highlights.

LEICA THORNBURY - ACCOUNTANT
Following the completion of my degree at Griffith University on the Gold Coast, I commenced employment at Johnston Rorke through our graduate employment program.
For me the decision to join JR was easy, as I was offered a position that would allow me to work alongside people whom possessed a wealth of knowledge. JR also offers extensive training and professional development programs, which has assisted me in commencing the CA program.
Whilst we do work hard and pride ourselves on the level of service we provide to our clients, there is also a very social side to JR. Events such as YETTE, end of financial year ball and the Christmas party are the main highlights for the social calendar. Monthly drinks are also a welcomed gathering and are generally held outside the office, they are a great way to not only let your hair down but to also mingle with colleagues.
